Urban Legend reboot on fast-track

A reboot for the 1998 slasher Urban Legend is full go at Sony's Screen Gems.
Screen Gems has set Colin Minihan to write and direct the thriller Urban Legend. Pic is on a fast track, and the studio is currently casting the key roles.
The reboot will take a modern approach this time around...
Minihan will introduce an iconic new slasher for the digital age in a world where internet urban legends are born and move at a terrifying pace. The movie will center on a diverse cast of college students as they navigate a series of bizarre deaths that resemble urban legends linked to the darkest corners of social media.
It could be interesting. Sounds a little like the movie Smiley, though (which in a way was sort of a Scream/Urban Legend hybrid).

More importantly, what could this mean for the next Scream movie? This could actually push Spyglass into fast-tracking their Scream reboot (or Scream 5 or whatever it is).
