David, Courteney, and Parker Posey look all "shocked" |
Like the script for the last ''Scream'' sequel, this one was kept under you-could-read-it-but-then-we'd-have-to-kill-you wraps. Not that you could make heads or tails of it: Killings happen around the shooting of movie-within-the-movie ''Stab 3,'' the sequel to ''Stab 2,'' which was based on what happened in ''Scream 2''.... ''We're seeing the reality behind the reality behind the reality,'' says Craven of the $40 million sequel. Confused? ''It took me a few minutes to get it,'' laughs Campbell, who, as perpetual victim Sidney, begins this installment in hiding. One ''Scream'' stalwart who wasn't around to clarify was creator Kevin Williamson, who was off directing ''Teaching Mrs. Tingle'' and writing ABC's ''Wasteland,'' so Ehren Kruger (who wrote ''Reindeer Games'') filled in.
Meanwhile, everyone with e-mail seemed to be posting ''insider'' info. Alicia Silverstone, Kate Winslet, and Shannen Doherty were rumored to be the opening-sequence victim, with Jamie Lee Curtis and Ben Affleck as cameos. Craven, though cagey, insists this is the end of ''Scream.'' ''That's it,'' he says. ''No more whatsoever.'' Here's an idea: A director promises there won't be a fourth, and then... BUZZ FACTOR: 8 out of 10
