Chad Keith, the production designer on Scream 5, posted a photo on Instagram expressing his excitement about the first day of shooting. The photo? The backside of a chairback. And to the surprise of many, or none, the production title is simply Scream.
They've dropped the numeral...for now. We'll see what happens. But remember, Scream 2's chairbacks said Scream: The Sequel and Scream's chairbacks read Scary Movie. Honestly, I'm a little surprised the chairbacks don't just say Parkside (since that's the official production title).
Now if S5 is parodying "direct sequels to the originals," then this makes total sense. Time shall tell.
